I have been involved with sport for over 16 years now, initially as a junior competitor before graduating up to racing professionally, including the Olympic Games and many World Championships. Following my career I took some time away from the sport to learn about how I wanted to coach, what I believed in and how I would perform as a coach. I love the challenge of working with athletes and finding out how to get the best out of them, and help them get the best out of themselves.
As a coach there are many areas within my coaching philosophy that have evolved over the years from my experiences as an athlete, as a coach and through watching other coaches. I took time away to complete some study, I have coaching certificates through Triathlon Australia and Swimming Australia, while I am also currently working through my Masters in Sports Coaching. I work with Australia's best swimming squad, coaching alongside two of the best coaches in Australia.
The key area of coaching, especially online, is communication - data will give me so much but hearing from the athlete is essential. I always tell athletes to not be shy and contact me as much as they need. In my coaching I focus on what the goals of the athlete are, the demands of the race are, the available training time for the athlete, what the athlete is currently doing, their current 'form' level and where their mental approach is. It is important to work together on the understanding and developing the process to moving forward. Once I have this information I plot a plan for how to achieve their goals. Through this training process I focus on the physical and mental health of the athlete - a healthy body and mind is key to ultimately helping them get the best out of themselves.
I work with athletes of many sports and distances and of any ability. There are no restrictions to who I will work with, just someone with a desire to improve!
