So, You're thinking of hiring a coach but how do you begin to sort the wheat from the chaff? Well, I think street cred and experience matters. I've been developing as a coach for over 25 years thru competition, education and experience. I coach both power and heart rate, incorporate your life into your training plan, and put a lot of focus on skills and tactical development instead of just power numbers and HIT.
I am a USA Cycling Level 1 Coach w/ distinction (CEU's thru education vs spending $$).
I have both power & skills instructor certifications (meaning I teach the teachers), a B.A. in Exercise Physiology and over 25 years of competitive racing, team management and coaching experience. Among my good fortune during that time has been working with one of the Worlds top MTB programs early in my career, coaching Hong Kong's premiere elite road racing program for 4 years, and working at the USA Cycling Regional Talent ID Camps for the past 10 years. I've taken the Team USA TID Juniors to the Junior Tour of Ireland twice and helped develop the curriculum for the Beginning Racer Program, the standard skills curriculum for all of USA Cycling.
Personally, I've raced successfully across road, mountain, cyclocross, and track landing on district podiums in each at elite and masters levels. Currently, I am head coach for the Peninsula Velo/Summit Bicycles Race Team in NorCal as well as working with select private clients around the World. While I believe that power is a great tool, when used appropriately, it isn't a miracle solution - you still have to do the work! Maybe I can help you reach a new level?
