Mark has been named Coach of the Year DFW Tri Club for the last two years and focuses his efforts in the Dallas Market. He maintains a small, intimate group of athletes who he coaches privately. He is a local expert in Blood Lactate Testing and has a similar coaching philosophy as Matt Dixon. "Waterlogged" by Dr. Timothy Noakes is his current favorite endurance-themed book.
Mark is USAT Level I Certified, attended the DFW Tri Club coaching school and TrainingPeaks University. He’s the Director of Group Training and he’s the coach of the SMU Triathlon Club. Although he was among some tough competition, he managed to pull off the DFW Tri Club Coach of the Year in 2014 and 2015. He is frequently found at Masters, the weekly Open Water Swims and conducting the club's Swim Basics class.
He has been an athlete all of his life. In High School, he ran the 400 meter Track & Field event up to the Los Angeles City Section quarter finals. He also led his soccer team to the Los Angeles City Section semi-finals. He played club soccer with the East-West Soccer Ambassadors, representing the United States in some European “football” tournaments.
He ended up trading in soccer for Triathlon. He was a member of a local racing team and has qualified for Team USA in the Standard and Long Distance Duathlon and consistently qualifies for Nationals (Triathlon).
Mark’s coaching style balances calm and mellow with high intensity. He listens to his athletes and is pretty good about pushing them and backing off when the time is right. He tries to communicate why certain skills in practice are useful in a race and he is not shy to communicate his rationale, in the name of understanding and education. You and Coach Mark will be a good fit if you tend to over-train and need some help backing off, as well as you possess some of these traits.
