Marcus Barton has raced 60+ swimrun events worldwide, including 4× ÖTILLÖ World Championships, and holds the top American team record at Worlds. He helps athletes become better swimrunners, moving smarter, transitioning smoother, and executing stronger on race day.
Marcus Barton is one of the most experienced swimrun athletes and coaches in North America. He raced his first swimrun at Rockman Swimrun in 2015 and has since competed in over 60 swimrun races worldwide, including multiple appearances at ÖTILLÖ, The Swimrun World Championship. Marcus currently holds the top American team record at ÖTILLÖ Worlds alongside Kawika Tarayao (8:39) and has earned multiple podium finishes at Rockman Swimrun.
Beyond swimrun, Marcus brings a deep endurance background in trail running, ultrarunning, XTERRA, and adventure racing, experience that informs his ability to prepare athletes for long, complex race days.
Through SpeedyLizard Coaching, Marcus works with athletes one-on-one and in group settings, helping everyone from first-time swimrunners to those targeting top international events. He is a familiar face at U.S. ÖTILLÖ races, where he regularly leads pre-race clinics.
Marcus’s coaching focuses on building better swimrunners, not just better swimmers or runners. His approach emphasizes efficient swimrun-specific movement, smooth transitions, smart gear use, and strong execution over long days. Known for his approachable, practical style, Marcus helps athletes build confidence and apply skills immediately in training and racing.
He has coached and organized swimrun camps in the U.S. and Sweden and is also a co–race director of Rockman Swimrun, giving him a unique athlete-and-organizer perspective on what it takes to succeed on race day.
