I enjoy coaching younger athletes looking to integrate and find a balance between their training and school/university, work, or any other regular commitment in their lives. Given my background as a student-athlete, I can help not only with the training itself but also with the logistics of how to make it happen. I will endeavor to help keep your training event/goal-focused because I believe this helps with motivation, but a goal can be as simple as “run a 20-minute 5k”.
Bikes have been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. I was riding consistently as early as 10. A few years later, I got more serious about training and racing. Since then, I’ve faced numerous challenges, each of which required a different tactic to overcome.
I struggled with back pain in the early part of my racing career. I overcame that with targeted strength, flexibility, and core exercises. That experience led me to develop a routine that I utilize regularly and enjoy sharing with others because every athlete can benefit from this type of training.
I’ve also experienced injuries including hip, wrist, and foot fractures. I’m consequently well versed in injury recovery, especially the mental aspects, but also working with PT to get back to training safely ASAP. There’s often a psychological aspect following an injury that must be addressed, and I’m able to use my experiences to help others who find themselves in a similar situation.
To that end, I believe in the importance of on-the-bike skill building and will endeavor to work with each client on the bike as needed to do a skill assessment and ensure skill-based needs are being met.
On a related note, I feel that it is important to be comfortable in your training, outside of the fact that you may find your muscles to be sore after a hard workout. You should never find yourself with pain that comes from poor setup. Bike fits and gait analyses are important steps to take for injury prevention.
