As a coach, I look forward to sharing my experience and knowledge of the sport to help you achieve your goals. But I also look forward to working with you and learning from you as there's so much to learn from individuals! I rely on on the below "pillars of success" for a healthy, successful coach-athlete relationship:
Be committed to the process
This does not mean quit your job to focus on triathlon, of course. It takes time to see progress, and it is individualized. Some may see improvement right away, while others may need more adaptation, but what will make the difference in the long run is your commitment to the process.
Communication is key
“Language brings with it an identity and a culture, or at least the perception of it. A shared language says "We're the same." A language barrier says "We're different." Trevor Noah, Born a crime: Stories from a South African childhood.
Though the context is different, the idea remains the same. A good communication is key to progress. If done in a respectful manner we will have a healthy and enjoyable coach-athlete relationship.
Be hungry, but be humble
The beauty of the endurance sport journey is that there's always something to work on. As a coach, I hope you will learn from me, as I know I will learn from you. We improve by empowering and lifting each other up, and by celebrating our successes. We will build confidence, get hungrier, and we will strive to remain humble.
