Through personal experience and academic training, Jim brings a unique perspective to coaching. He began racing as a junior and continued racing at an elite level throughout college (both undergraduate and graduate). Jim has experience in a variety of events (mountain biking, cyclocross, stage racing, time trialing, century rides with mom) and has a passion for coaching all athletes with various ability levels and with various athletic goals.
As a bike racer, Jim has always wanted to know how to get faster. This desire led him to pursue a PhD in physiology from the University of Colorado Boulder. As you might expect, his research focused on cycling. This research covered the physical activity spectrum from light-intensity bike commuting as a means to improve health all the way to predicting elite-level time trial performance. In addition, Jim’s academic background has provided him with a wide ranging knowledge base on physiological factors that influence performance such as immunology and sleep physiology.
Jim is a USA Cycling certified coach who brings a unique perspective to coaching. His education has taught him how to analyze the latest research on sports performance while his personal experience has taught him how this research can be implemented into training or racing. While Jim’s passion is certainly time trial racing, he has experience with various other cycling events (cyclocross, stage racing, crits, mountain bike racing, century rides) as well as experience using cycling as a way to improve health.
Jim focuses on each individual to design a custom coaching plan that best suits their needs and goals. More information can be found at catalystcoachingco.com. He looks forward to working with you!
