Professor Jeroen Swart is an internationally respected cycling coach and performance scientist with a distinguished career at the highest level of professional cycling. As Head of Performance for UAE Team Emirates, one of the world’s leading UCI WorldTour teams, he directs the performance strategy underpinning the success of riders such as Tadej Pogačar and is the personal coach to athletes such as Isaac Del Toro, Jay Vine, and Brandon McNulty.
In this role, Professor Swart integrates cutting-edge sports science, physiology, and technology to deliver comprehensive performance systems. His expertise spans training periodization, altitude and environmental adaptation, aerodynamic optimization, power and data analytics, and multidisciplinary team management involving coaches, sports scientists, and medical staff. He has published close to 100 scientific papers in high ranking scientific journals.
As both a professor in Sports and Exercise Medicine at the University of Cape Town and a specialist sports physician, he bridges the academic and professional worlds, ensuring that evidence-based research directly informs athlete preparation and performance. Professor Swart’s approach to coaching is rooted in scientific precision, individualization, and athlete well-being—principles that have contributed to multiple Grand Tour victories and WorldTour successes.
He has also mentored numerous developing riders and coaches, helping to shape the next generation of performance professionals and advancing the global standard of high-performance cycling through both his academic leadership and applied expertise.
Professor Swart currently coaches numerous top 10 global ranked athletes in World Cup mountain biking, Cyclocross, World Tour Professional Cycling and other disciplines.
He also enjoys working with well motivated and focused age-group athletes to help them achieve their best.
