Jack is a CASES accredited Sport & Exercise Scientist with over nine years of experience working as an exercise physiologist with British Rowing and the UK Sports Institute. He holds a BSc in Sport & Exercise Science and an MSc in Applied Sport & Exercise Physiology. In 2023, he was shortlisted for the UK Sport Support Staff of the Year Award.
During his time at British Rowing, Jack has supported athletes across all levels – from developing juniors to experienced Olympians. One of his favourite moments was helping a senior athlete return to training postpartum, in time for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Jack particularly enjoys working with individual athletes and tailoring training around them to target progressive overload and stimulate physiological adaptation. He looks for opportunities to make training fun and give the athletes that he is working with confidence that their training is working. Central to his approach, is collecting data and using training monitoring and performance testing to make smart training-based decisions. This promotes training consistency which is essential for sustained success.
Jack can use his expertise and knowledge of endurance science to help athletes structure their training more effectively, balanced with appropriate rest and recovery. With his large toolbox of adaptable training sessions, he is particularly skilled at helping rowers prepare for racing on the water and ergometer testing. More recently, driven by his ambition to work with cyclists, Jack has completed various TrainingPeaks certifications and a cycling physiology course via the Sports Science Institute of South Africa. He is also enrolled in a postgraduate course in Advanced Cycling Coaching, delivered in partnership by the UCI and University of Lausanne.
