Hey, I'm Matti. I spent 11 years at TrainingPeaks, where they trusted me to teach coaches how to coach at TrainingPeaks University. I raced Amateur Elite with Rio Grande Cycling Team and podiumed my age group at Unbound 200 in 2026. I have a degree in biology and exercise physiology from St. Olaf. I'm also a middle-aged dad of three, so I know training doesn't happen in a vacuum. I help gravel riders get stupidly fast without becoming the person who brings a food scale to a party
Hey, I'm Matti!
I worked at TrainingPeaks for 11 years and they trusted me enough to regularly get up in front of coaches and tell the coaches how to coach. I'm nerdy enough to know my CTLs from my TSBs, but real enough to connect with people who don't spend their free time on WKO5 or TrainerRoad forums.
On the racing side, I didn't even start until I was 25, but in a few years rocketed up to the National level before faceplanting into the wall of my own meager potential. I got picked up by the slowest, fast team in North America - Rio Grande Cycling Team - and produced mostly mediocre results for 6 years on the road before pivoting into gravel cycling in 2021, eventually landing a age-group podium at Unbound 200 in 2026. I was never fast enough to 'make it', but made it way farther than I ever should have, and did all that without becoming the sort of insufferable endurance athlete that measures their food at parties or won't even look at a beer.
Off the bike, I'm a real person. I wifed a babe and we have three kids and a high-needs dog. I've since left TrainingPeaks to work coaching full time because that's how I can do the most good in the world - helping athletes get stupidly fast without setting the rest of their life on fire.
