Erik Hurley is a USA Triathlon Associate Certified Coach and founder of Earned Ground Coaching, a USAT Registered Club based in the Pacific Northwest. He coaches across all triathlon distances — sprint through full Ironman — with programming built around your goal race, your current fitness, and your available training time. Delivered through TrainingPeaks with integrated strength, injury prevention, and weekly coaching feedback.
The athletes who reach their goals aren't always the most talented. They're the most consistent — showing up, doing the work, trusting the process over time. That's the foundation Earned Ground Coaching is built on.
Erik holds a USA Triathlon Associate Certified Coach certification and a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences and Sports Medicine. Before focusing on endurance sports, he competed across a wide range of disciplines — baseball, basketball, swimming and diving, and distance running from 5K through marathon. That multi-sport background shapes how he sees athletic development: not as single-sport conditioning, but as building a complete, adaptable athlete.
A triathlete since 2010, Erik has competed across sprint, Olympic, 70.3, and full Ironman distances. In 2021 and 2022 he provided structured swim programming and open-water coaching to a Pacific Northwest triathlon club.
Every plan Erik builds starts in the same place: understanding why this matters to you. That answer anchors the training, the hard conversations, and the days when motivation fades. Programming is built on a five-discipline weekly structure — swim, bike, run, strength, and recovery — using heart rate, pace, and RPE together. Progress is tracked through efficiency gains, not just race results.
Earned Ground Coaching is a USAT Registered Club. Erik is SafeSport certified and background screened.
