PhD in Sports Science with 10+ years of coaching experience and current lecturer at the university level for endurance and strength diagnostics and training, I specialize in endurance performance for runners and trail/ultra-trail athletes. I offer personalized plans and tailored data analysis to optimize remote coaching. My approach focuses on long-term performance through structural resilience, injury prevention, and addressing limiting factors unique to trail running.
I'm Eric Lichtenstein, PhD in Sports Science, with over a decade of experience coaching endurance athletes and more than 12 years as a runner. My journey began in wrestling, soccer, and parkour before discovering my passion for running in 2012. Since then, I’ve specialized in coaching trail and ultra-trail runners, helping athletes from beginners to elites build long-term performance through consistency, resilience, and smart, individualized training. I also lead the local section of Switzerland’s largest trail running club, offering weekly community runs.
With a strong academic foundation from the University of Basel, where I completed PhD, I combine cutting-edge science with practical coaching. My focus on neuromuscular performance, structural resilience, and injury prevention directly shapes my approach. I’m a lecturer in applied training science at the University of Basel, where I teach diagnostics and training in endurance and strength, and I contribute regularly to sports science publications.
I emphasize simple, effective, and field-based diagnostic tools and training principles that athletes can actually use. I offer fully personalized remote coaching, performance-driven training plans, and trail-specific data analysis. My philosophy centers on addressing limiting factors, building structural durability, and achieving sustainable progress in mountain running.
