Welcome to my profile. I am a five time Ironman and a 15 time 70.3 finisher. I have been competing in multisport since 2000. I have raced triathlon since 2003. I have competed in all distances of triathlon, however I prefer long distance triathlon.
I am married with a teenage daugther, so I know the challenges that life can present. I am from Alabama originally and I have been an endurance athlete since my college years.
Teaching is a lifelong passion. I am a tenured, full professor at Central Michigan University, which is my professional career ("full-time job"). My goal for coaching triathlon lies in my desire to help others. II love to teach, inspire, and motivate.
Each athlete has different needs, wants, desires, lifestyle, and limiters. With the athlete as the focus, I will develop your training plan, training sessions, and provide feedback. I don't believe in a cookie cutter approach to training management. I take a personal approach as I know that each athlete's needs and schedule are different.
I coach beginners and experienced triathletes, even though I prefer athletes new to long distance events. In the process of coaching I hope to learn from you as well. It is a team approach.
I would not consider myself 'athletic' in the basic definition of the word. One doesn't need to be an elite athlete to become good at long distance triathlon. I am a hard worker and I am extremely motivated. My Ironman events include Florida, Wisconsin (x2), and Louisville(x2). I will be competing in IM Chattanogga in 2021.
I can coach athletes who are local or who are remote. There are no limits on the number of times we can communicate (within reason). I utilize email, phone, and text. Facetime and conferencing options are also available. One exception on my part is that you take your role as an athlete as seriously as a take my role as a coach.
