You may want to improve your performance in time trial, road race, cyclocross or MTB racing, or get faster on your triathlon bike leg, all of which are based around cycling fitness. I will work with you to understand your goals and how much time per week you have to work on them. I will then work out a training plan for you to follow and give you feedback as you progress through the plan.
Since 2013 I was rather overweight (and had been for a good few years) and I started on a weight loss programme, including dieting and exercise. I always enjoyed cycling as a teenager and a student, but it never occurred to me to do it competitively (back then that would have been unusual). From 2014 to 2016 I did more and more cycling, lost all the weight I had intended to (and more), and undertook a series of sportives to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. This included a number of iconic events including l’Etape du Tour, Ride London 100 (3 times), Dartmoor Classic and many other road and off-road events. I joined St Ives Cycling Club at the end of 2015 and in 2016 participated in my first competitive cycling events, the club time trials. 2017 saw me compete in a number of open time trial events and win the club TT championship. In the last year I have also gained UK track accreditation and competed in cyclocross and road races.
I have a scientific background, with a physics degree and PhD, so the numbers-based side of training, performance and analysis come naturally to me. I have immersed myself in physiology, power-based training, time trialling, aerodynamics and road racing. I also have a background in working with people over many years of management and more recently running my own business. I believe I can give you the benefit of the learning and experience that has got me from zero to being a half decent cyclist in just a few years.
