My name is Brad Mastros and I offer remote coaching via Training peaks for triathlon, running, and cycling. My focus is on age-group athletes looking to step up in distance or shoot for a new PR.
As an athlete myself, I began playing basketball at age 5 and finished with a couple years of varsity in high school. After high school I began work on my undergrad degree in elementary education and began doing a lot of rock climbing, backpacking, and mountaineering. During this time my wife and I did some extensive traveling during the summer months which further inspired me to climb more. As I entered grad school for special education I continued climbing in California and went on several successful expeditions to Peru and Alaska. With a daughter on the way, I shifted over to triathlon training and did my first Ironman in 2010. Since then I have completed five Ironmans and over 50 triathlons total. I am a multiple time USAT All American and continue to race competitively in the 35-39 age group. In 2013, I took the USAT coaching course and have been a certified coach since. Coaching was a natural progression for me since I have been teaching students with disabilities for over ten years. As a special education teacher it is my job to individualize each student's educational program and that training has carried over well to coaching. As a coach I feel my strength is in overall planning with regards to an athlete's individual needs. I know how to balance a happy family with a day job and a heavy training load. Maintaining this balance is the key to long term progression and successful racing.
