Jose Bermudez Coaching offers personalized 1:1 coaching and consulting for ultra-endurance athletes who want to take their cycling to the next level. I am a USA Cycling Level 2 cycling coach with extensive experience racing and coaching ultras on road, mountain bikes, and fatbikes. I can help you achieve your goals, whether you want to successfully complete your first double century, improve your time in a 24 hour race, or compete in one of the country's top ultra races.
I started working with a small number of athletes in 2015 to share the experience I have gained in more than a decade of racing bikes. My most recent focus has been on ultra-endurance racing. In 2015 I finished the Race Across America (12th place). I raced the Tour Divide in 2016, placing 10th, and then came 4th in the TransAm Bike Race in 2017. I completed the 350 mile Iditarod Invitational fatbike race from Anchorage to McGrath in 2018 and came 4th in the 1,000 mile race to Nome in 2019.
Long distance bike racing requires high levels of fitness and training, on and off the bike.
Don't train for endurance events by just piling on the miles. My personalized programs focus on increasing cycling strength and average speed through interval training, preferably working with a power meter.
Ultra-endurance racing also requires careful logistical planning. Nutrition and hydration are key. So too are equipment choices. As a cycling coach my job is to help you achieve your goals, which includes all of these logistical elements as well as basic athletic training. I have considerable experience racing and coaching crewed events and can advise on all aspects of preparation, vehicle set-up, and racer support.
