Coach Ben has experience coaching athletes who have trained for objectives in cross country ski racing, mountaineering, rock climbing, marathons, and ultra marathons. He is knowledgeable and has experience in designing periodized and heart rate based training methodologies and emphasizes a strong foundation in strength training.
Ben joined the local nordic ski program in Jackson, WY at a young age which eventually led him to achieving a medal at Junior Nationals and competing at the NCAA level for one year before transferring to the University of Oregon. He spent his senior year at the University of Oslo in Norway–where he explored thousands of kilometers of ski trails.
In his 20’s Ben was eager to push his fitnes limits and backcountry skiing ability. Always charging hard resulted in fracturing his pelvis in a skiing accident. After the injury with rest, recovery, reflection and healing he became more attuned to know when to push and when to take it easy. During that period he completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training and two 10-day Vipassana meditation courses. He now finds joy in helping others realize their full potential through intelligent training, self awareness and balance.
Ben began his coaching career with the Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club in 2007, and he still coaches with the organization today. During his six-year stint as the Nordic Program Director and Head Coach, he became a Level 200 U.S. Ski and Snowboard coach and helped JHSC become a U.S. Ski and Snowboard Certified Club. His achievements include coaching a handful of national champions and athletes that have gone onto compete at NCAA championships. He most enjoys watching athletes continue to incorporate healthy fitness and lifestyle choices into their routine after completing a training program or achieving a goal.
