I've been participating in triathlons, swimming and running races for over 30 years. I've had success, failures, struggles, and celebrations. Being a triathlete and living an active lifestyle is an essential part of who I am, and it is now my passion to help others achieve their goals.
“Here kids, sit with the cooler on the beach and we’ll see you in a few hours.” I grew up in the triathlon world before the world knew about triathlon (and when it was safe for parents to race while their kids hung out at the beach). I started by watching my parents compete and soon joined them, completing my first 10K when I was 7 years old. Soon after I did my first kids’ triathlon as well as a few sprint distance and relay races. I ran track in middle school and swam in middle and high school. I was recruited to swim at the United States Naval Academy and after two years swimming there, I joined the triathlon team. I competed in several Olympic distance races and my first Half Ironman distance in Panama City.
I was 10 years old when I watched my dad finish the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii. I set a goal that someday I would be an Ironman. In 2011, over a dinner of hot wings and beer, my husband and I decided it was time to sign up and accomplish that goal; now a goal for us both. At Ironman Louisville 2012 after many months of schedule coordination, discipline, and help from our family and friends, we heard our names followed by, “You, are an Ironman!” It was an amazing feeling of accomplishment, not only what we did that day, but for the many miles leading up to it. And it was just the beginning of many other accomplishments since.
