Blisters Help Please
Monday, March 26, 2012 12:24:11 AM(UTC)
I am also a newbie here and had a blister issue. excessively hot and humid here which does nothelp. Herewith my plan which has worked well.
Try to get some bodyglide - powder sachets for runners - semi damp rub in dries out and stops friction.
Unbroken blister skin only- swab with surgical spirit to dry out fluid
Use sports tape to tape blister prone areas - reduses friction - just tape flat on to foot no wrinkles but only do this once current blister dried and healed else you will rip it open not good.
try to get some wrights running sox - double sox - wierd but very comfy - also reduce friction. or use 2 thin synthetic pairs - works the same.
Get shoes checked for fit as already advised. but if all else fails my tricks have worked for me.If you are in the US you can get the bodyglide and sox easily if in Aussie you have to get on line through amazon as no stockist here.
If blisters already broken go to chemist and get blister healing plaster which you put on and leave on til they drop off. if red and nasty see your doc. hope thismay help Gill.

leg cramps while swimming
Thursday, November 03, 2011 11:09:24 PM(UTC)
Currently training for half iron man after many health issues. I seem to now be getting calf crmps in one leg in long hard swim sessions. Usually able to continue to swim while bending toes to shin and lose kick on that leg for a couple of strokes. but last night had to stop to stretch it out. Reason for nutrition question is I believe cramps more related to electrolyte imbalances than other causes. I absoulutely cannot eat bananas - hate smell texture and taste - monkey food yuk. I eat apples and assorted berries in season daily a t least 2 servings fresh fruit daily and lots of veges and salad stuff. Drink at least 2 l water daily and make homemade muesli bars for snacks - lots of oats, seeds mixed dried fruit nuts.I take magnesium and fish oil as only other dietary supplements. What else can i try to help improve this. I am pretty flexible - do yoga and pilates and am rigorous about stretching as learnt my lesson in the past- also back surgery has forced me to pay attention to receovery/prevention.
Any ideas on what may help this??
