| So, now that I’ve recovered from 3 pneumothoraxes of my right lung, and surgery to remove a carcinoid tumor in my left (then lost all that regained fitness to my 2nd year of grad school), comes the next big-and exciting-event! On Tues, 13.June, I received a call letting us know that we have been chosen as adoptive parents for a child to be born within the next week! At any time in the next 7 days, we will get a phone call telling us we need to drop everything and get to Knoxville, TN. The birth mother wants the child to be placed directly with us, with no time in interim care, so when she goes into labor, we've got to get moving. From the time we delivered our profiles-the time we went public, as it were-to the day we got the call only 3 weeks. As you can guess, races will only be scattered here and there. I don't plan on doing much until the fall, and then cyclocross. On the plus side, I’ll now have a two-person cheering section (I hope)! Ride smart, stay safe, have fun! |
