I just had the pleasure of my groin strain diagnosed.  Has anyone had the pleasure of this little trick of nature?  I am under PT treatment with ultrasound, electrostimulation, ART and lots of ice.  I have had one week off and will have at least a second week of inactivity.  How long do people usually take to recover for this type of injury?

Any thoughts on this or recovery exercises or preventative strategies will be much appreciated.

Ouch

Stephen

Stephen,

Not sure how long it will take to heal, but you are doing all the right things.  Hang in there.

Stephen; I did indeed have the pleasure two years ago -- eight weeks out from my scheduled marathon.  With the ultrasound they had me ready to go within 5-6 weeks.  But, as is my custom, I had not gone to the doc's right away -- so your case may be different.

.... and our sympathy. That sounds distinctly un-fun. Sorry.

Is it a strain or a tear?  They sound like different animals.

Right, a strain is a cat; a tear is a badger (particularly for  those who read Dilbert this morning).

Stephen, didn't your PT give you any advice on stretches or exercises to do?

For stretching, there are only a few that I know about.  These are my favorite 3:

I've also done these, but not too often, for no particular reason.

And here is a good set of exercises to do, when you are ready for them.

Best of luck to you!
